About this event
From July 3 to 6, we will be participating in MFCA’s 2025 Atlantic Fire Leadership Conference in Summerside, P.E.I.
Cameron Grant, our Director and General Counsel, Ship Fund, will be presenting at 8:30 a.m. on July 4 during session #1 entitled “Cost-Recovery Tools for Emergency Responders: Dealing with Oil Spills from Ships and Boats.”
You can also visit our booth #57, where you can meet our Communications Manager, Jannie Bédard Guillemette.
Firefighters are often first on the scene when a vessel spills oil or catches fire. They can be asked to stabilize the situation before other authorities, such as the Canadian Coast Guard, take over. These initial interventions can be crucial in preventing further damage or to monitor the situation.
However, we have heard firsthand about the challenges these fire services face when it comes to recovering the costs of their interventions. Limited budgets often mean these costs are shouldered by their local government.
We hope to see more claims submitted by those on the front lines of these incidents.
If you would like to set up a meeting during the conference, please email:
