About this event

From October 22 to 24, our Deputy Administrator, Rail Fund, Steve Anderson and our Director, Rail Fund, Chantal Guénette will be participating at the Indigenous Public Safety Conference 2025.

Chantal will be presenting at 12:45 p.m. on Friday, October 24 with a session entitled “Who Pays? Your Roadmap to Financial Recovery Following a Major Railway Accident Involving Crude Oil.” Participants will walk away with practical steps on how to integrate cost recovery strategies and claims preparedness into their emergency response plans. You can visit our booth #34 at the Trade Show, where you can meet us directly.

For many Indigenous communities across Canada, the regular passage of trains carrying crude oil has become a hallmark of daily life. While generally safe, the transportation of dangerous goods like crude oil can pose risks to communities, the environment, and the economy. We are therefore enthusiastic about building meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities that might be impacted by a railway accident. This aligns with our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation and ensuring fair access to justice.

We look forward to meeting Indigenous first responders and local leaders to hear their concerns about the compensation needed in the event of an accident.

If you would like to set up a meeting during the event, please email:
